Annual Event Proceedings 2007

Introduction

The event on the theme of "Planning for the Future", organised by Genesis Faraday, took place on the 12th and 13th September 2007 at New Hall, Cambridge. The objective of this event was to examine the research needs, technology transfer and industry structural issues related to the future market for animal breeding stock.
  • Issues covered include those that affect both business and science such as climate change, competition from energy crops and the growing demand for foods of animal origin in the developing world.
  • In addition to key lectures there was significant breakout time for discussion groups giving them the opportunity to share their opinions and ideas.
  • An important part of the event was a discussion meeting on the Sustainable Farm Animal Breeding Technology Platform (FABRE TP) draft Strategic Research Agenda (SRA). The aim was to gather a UK perspective on the future of farm animal breeding.
  • The Genesis Faraday Technology Roadmap was revisited to identify research and knowledge transfer priorities.
  • In addition to this there were updates and a poster session on the science being undertaken by Genesis Faraday Associates.
